	What is Fair-Sound? The Fair-Sound Audio DSP plug-in provides loudness compensation, an essential element that is conspicuously missing from the Windows Media Player 9 Series. Have you ever noticed how a high fidelity recording sounds great when the volume is high but thin and weak when played back at a low volume? The fault is not with your recording nor with your speakers; it's your ears! The human ear has a nonlinear response to sounds at the extremes of the audio spectrum. In layman's terms, this means that your perception of the midrange sound of a trumpet remains fairly proportional as its volume goes from low to high, but not so with the low pitch of a bass guitar or the high pitch of a cymbal. As the volume decreases, the perceived levels of these sounds fall disproportionately, resulting in a lackluster listening experience. This characteristic of human hearing has been known since the days of vinyl recording, but it seems to have been largely forgotten in the digital realm. Fair-Sound employs a sophisticated system of intelligent filters to compensate for this nonlinear response at low volumes. 	River Past QuickTime DirectShow Filter for WMP let you play QuickTime, MPEG-4(MP4, M4V), DV and 3G (3gp and 3g2) video, MPEG-4(M4A) and AMR audio, animated GIF and FLC animations in Windows Media Player. It is implemented as a DirectShow filter, using the native QuickTime codecs. By using QT codecs, it has the compatbility as the regular QT Player. It is compatible with all file types supported by QuickTime - including MOV, MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, DV, AMR, M4A, animated GIF, and FLC animation. However, it only uses the codecs from QuickTime, without the additional weight of the full QT. By using the standard, multi-threaded DirectShow architecture, it is fast and feels at home in Windows Media Player. Indeed, it is often much faster than the standard QT Player. You have to have QuickTime installed. The filter uses the codecs from the QT installation. Once installed, you can open mov, mp4, m4v, m4a, dv, 3gp, 3g2, amr, and flc files in Windows Media Player. It is not a seperate application software. Note, it does not change the default file association. It enables WMP to play the QuickTime files types.
